First of all I forgot to take any pictures of my mosaic really sorry Ms. Sudkamp
1. I designed the piece the way I did because I love Notre Dame, and I liked how it looked. The subject is the word Irish. 2. What I found most difficult was getting small pieces to fit in to the spaces. 3. What I found very successful was making the letters, and if I were to redo it I would choose a different background. 1. First I wedged the clay, then centered it on a wheel, next I created the shape of the bowl. After that I shaped the bottom of the bowl after it had dried. Finally I painted it with under glaze and carved it out.
2. I really like the sgraffito process, it is so simple and it reflects the true beauty of the shape of the piece. 3. The part of my piece that was successful was the shape of the bowl, but if I was to redo it I would put a better design. 1. First I had to come up with the idea for my project, and since I still hadn't started it I thought of Coming Soon. Next I shaped the hands and bend them to be able to hold a paper (this took forever) because hands are so complicated). Then I fired them and decided not to paint it because I didn't want the hands to be too creepy.
2. I thought the theme of piece was great and it all kind of flows with this semester, I was never able to complete a project on time. 3. The difficulty I had was in the way I had to bend the hands to hold the paper. 1. First you have to wedge the clay to get the air out of it, next you place it close to the center, next you seal the edge. Then you lean into the piece to stabilize it and center it. After that you push thumbs into the center to create the first shape. Finally you shape your piece how you like.
2. A difficulty for me was sealing the edge for some reason I just could get it just right. 3. I found centering very successful, I got it first try after I finally managed to seal it. 1. I tried coil process, but it did not work well so I restarted with slab. I made the shape around a piece of pipe. Then I smoothed it out with the spoon. 2. A difficulty I had was with the structure of the coil piece, The slab piece work much better than the coil. 3. I planned on firing it from this point and adding a leaf from my tree at home. 1.With pit fired pieces you first must make a regular piece that doesn't pull in. Next you bisque fire the piece as you normally do. Finally you add salt acid and carbon then pit fire it.
2. I think it was successful, the colors are great, but I would have smoothed it out better so it wasn't so rigid. 3. I burned a paper, acid, a leaf from my house, and salt. 1. I helped make the paste and rip paper, and sometimes helping add paper mache. Virginia cut it out and paper mached.
2.First cut out the shape out of cardboard, add volume with paper towels and more cardboard. Next paper mache with newspaper type paper. Then glue together and smooth out with viva paper towels. 3. We had a lot of trouble attaching the wings to the body because of the body could not handle the weight of the wings. 1. Amphora is used to hold liquids such as wine or water, and also grain.
2. I was given the job of presenting the project since I was working on another project. 3. Sgraffito means to scratch since you scratch away the glaze. Registers mean the layers like the layers of the story. 1. First I planned the project, at the beginning I wanted to do a tree design, but later changed to a Hunny pot. Next I rolled out a slab of clay, and shaped to the right size. Then I rolled the slab and pinched for the legs. After that I rounded the pot and gave it a lip, then I carved the Hunny design. After getting fired I painted with different shades of blue.
