1. First I wedged the clay, then centered it on a wheel, next I created the shape of the bowl. After that I shaped the bottom of the bowl after it had dried. Finally I painted it with under glaze and carved it out.
2. I really like the sgraffito process, it is so simple and it reflects the true beauty of the shape of the piece. 3. The part of my piece that was successful was the shape of the bowl, but if I was to redo it I would put a better design.

1. First I had to come up with the idea for my project, and since I still hadn't started it I thought of Coming Soon. Next I shaped the hands and bend them to be able to hold a paper (this took forever) because hands are so complicated). Then I fired them and decided not to paint it because I didn't want the hands to be too creepy.
2. I thought the theme of piece was great and it all kind of flows with this semester, I was never able to complete a project on time. 3. The difficulty I had was in the way I had to bend the hands to hold the paper. 1. First you have to wedge the clay to get the air out of it, next you place it close to the center, next you seal the edge. Then you lean into the piece to stabilize it and center it. After that you push thumbs into the center to create the first shape. Finally you shape your piece how you like.
2. A difficulty for me was sealing the edge for some reason I just could get it just right. 3. I found centering very successful, I got it first try after I finally managed to seal it. |
